Welcome to Alameda Community Acupuncture!

We offer acupuncture treatments in a comfortable and relaxed setting at an affordable sliding scale of $20-$40 per session. You decide what you can afford. (There is a one-time $15 orientation fee with the first appointment).

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most common and dependable medical therapies used in the world. It is by nature simple, safe and effective health care. Acupuncturists use thin, sterile, and disposable needles inserted superficially into specific areas of the body in order to help the body's ability to heal itself. Over the three decades or so in which acupuncture has developed in the U.S., it has been proven to be exceptionally safe when performed by licensed acupuncturists, and also statistically effective in an increasing body of scientific studies.

Our goal is to make acupuncture and holistic health care more widely accessible to people in and around Alameda.

We treat in a Community Setting
Most acupuncturists in the U.S. treat patients on tables in isolated rooms. This is not traditional in Asia, where acupuncture usually occurs in a community setting. Treatments are simple and repeated frequently for best results.

At Alameda Community Acupuncture, patients remain fully clothed in comfortable lounge chairs or massage tables in our quiet, soothing community room. Getting acupuncture this way has many benefits beyond being more affordable:

  • Many people find it comforting to have others around them rather than being alone in a dark room.
  • Your acupuncturist can attend to your needs more easily during the treatment.
  • You can stay in treatment for a longer time.
  • The group treatment room creates a collective healing energy that enhances the power of each individual’s treatment
  • Families and friends can receive treatments together.

Our Sliding Scale

The effects of acupuncture is greatly enhanced when received frequently and regularly. (In China and Japan, in the first course of treatments, it is common to receive treatment every day or every other day)  Due to the higher cost of private one-on-one treatments common in the U.S., most people can only afford to be treated once a week, at best. When treated with greater frequency, you will feel better faster and you’ll be able to see longer-lasting results sooner. We want you to come in often enough to get well and stay well. Thousands of patients who go to community acupuncture clinics can testify that acupuncture does not have to be expensive to be effective! We understand that everyone’s situation is different, so we will never ask you for any proof of income/need. Everybody is treated the same no matter what you pay on our sliding scale of $20-40. You decide what you can afford.

We do not bill insurance companies directly. We are, however, happy to provide you with a receipt so you can bill them yourself.  Just ask for one at the front desk at the time of your appointment.

Our Philosophy and Community model

Our goal is to create a healing space in which patients feel comfortable, so that acupuncture is not just a form of medical intervention, but something you can integrate into your life, a means of relaxing, centering, and nourishing yourself.

Health cultivation is often a gradual process and it is often easier when you have a supportive environment. At ACA, we support people in their commitment to building a strong foundation of health over time, lessening the need for more expensive and invasive procedures later. Sometimes we give health recommendation as needed and we also offer other free/ low cost classes and health resources.

Our clinic is based on a social business model meaning our goal is to maximize social change instead of maximizing profit. We are able to keep our prices affordable and be a sustainable business because of the support of our wonderful community. One great way to help us with our mission is to tell your friends about us and help us spread the word. Together, we can create a healthier community.

  • ACA is a wheel-chair accessible clinic.
  • At ACA, we have acupuncturists who speak fluent English and Chinese.
